The tradition of the Buddhist teachings is grounded in the practice of dana, or generosity.
This practice comes to us from the time of the Buddha. He taught out of his own generosity and compassion for all beings expecting nothing in return. In appreciation, those who received the teachings donated food, clothing, and medicine. That was the beginning of the reciprocal relationship between teachers and students in this tradition that has developed for more than 2500 years through the many lands in which Buddhism is practiced.
Today, as we offer the Buddha's teachings, The Community Meditation Center carries on the tradition of dana. One way we do this is, whenever possible, to offer the teachings without charging a fee. To keep our operational expenses to a minimum, we rely on the services and generosity of a small staff of volunteer managers. We primarily rely on the generosity of those who attend to keep The CMC running. At each class or event, there is an opportunity to make a contribution to The CMC and the teacher in the spirit of dana. This also enables us to maintain a policy of turning no one away for lack of funds.
For those unable to attend in person, teachings are available on this site.
