October 29th Compassion as a Way of Life  A One Day Retreat with CMC guiding teacher Allan Lokos
593 Columbus Ave. (88th St.) 10:00 AM–5:00 PM
Retreat practice is viewed as an essential part of the contemplative life. For daylong retreats at the CMC yogis (meditators) should have attended a minimum of six sessions at the CMC or have equivalent meditation experience. The day will be held in silence.
The practice will consist of alternating periods of sitting and walking meditation, an optional yoga or mindful movement session, interviews with the teacher, and a dharma talk. Please bring a vegetarian lunch and something to drink to help maintain focus and the meditative tone of the day. It will be recommended that yogis remain in silence over night, if possible, and until the Sunday morning Q and A period.
Registration in advance is required; registration fee: $40. Some scholarship assistance may be available.

Register by phone or at any CMC session. Please register in advance as we cannot register people on the day of the retreat.

GUIDELINES
• CMC events start on time. We encourage arriving a few minutes early so as not to disrupt others.
• Please turn off cell phones, pagers, etc.
• Please observe Noble Silence except during Q and A periods.
• During Q and A periods please do not comment on what another has said.
• Tea and chocolates are available at most sessions. Help yourself before and after the session.
• Please avoid moving around during meditations and dharma talks.
• The tradition of Buddhist teachings is grounded in the practice of dana (generosity). This practice comes to us from the time of the Buddha when those who received the teachings reciprocated by donating food, clothing, and medicine. The CMC carries on the tradition of dana by, whenever possible, offering the teachings without charging a fee. We rely on the generosity of those who attend to keep the CMC running. At each session there is an opportunity to practice dana by making a contribution to the CMC and the teacher. This also enables us to maintain a policy of turning no one away for lack of funds.
